ANAVET CUP KICKS OFFThe MJHL champion Portage Terriers are off to the ANAVET Cup against the SJHL’s Humboldt Broncos.
The series, which follows a 2-3-2 format, begins Fri., April 17 at Portage’s Centennial Arena.
“We’re hoping to take this momentum into the ANAVET,” Terriers captain Eric Delong said. “We feel we can do even more than what we’ve showed thus far.”
Last year the Terriers and Broncos squared off for the ANAVET, with the Saskatchewan squad winning four straight.
The Broncos went on to the win the
RBC Cup.
Manitoba has won two ANAVET Cups over the last four years — the Selkirk Steelers in 2007 and Portage in 2005.
HEADING SOUTHDauphin Kings goaltender Adrian Rubeniuk is going to school.
Rubeniuk, who posted a 28-12-2 record to go along with a 3.16 goals-against average and .905 save percentage, has agreed to play for the State University of New York Geneseo
Blue Knights.
The Blue Knights are a Division 3 team which competes against other state schools. The Blue Knights were 14-12-1 this season.
“The Blue Knights are excited about adding a player with the skills and character of Adrian,” Blue Knights assistant coach Kris Heeres told
mjhlhockey.ca.
“His record is outstanding and we’re hoping he’ll help our squad move up the standings and challenge for a championship.”
Rubeniuk was named a finalist for the MJHL top goaltender award this season.
